This year RIFF celebrates one of the key components of great film making, makeup artists. Makeup artists from across Georgia will compete in multiple genres of makeup artistry. Stop by the lobby of the DeSoto to watch the artists at work and see what it takes to bring the special effects of makeup to life. While you’re there don’t forget to vote for this year’s winners.

How to package, label, and present your film to festivals in ways that would make Steve Jobs cry with tears of pride. Through the last nine years of receiving submissions we have seen a lot of great films. However, often times they are not always presented to us with their best foot forward. Learn from RIFF’s very own graphic artist and designer, Monica Sheppard, simple ways to package, label, market, and present your film to give it the best first impression possible and better odds at being accepted at film festivals across the globe.

Casting Great Films

Time: Saturday | 12PM

How to cast the best actors your money (or lack of money) can buy. Often considered the most important aspect of making a film, casting can be a complicated and confusing process for new filmmakers. Breakdown Services, a premier communication liaison with the casting world for the last 40 years, will share tips and secrets they have found to casting for films, such as ways to save time and money casting your production, regional casting, virtual auditions, and many more.

Every one of us at RIFF have fond memories of waking up early on Saturday mornings, eating a bowl of our favorite cereal, and watching Saturday morning cartoons. This year RIFF is bringing Saturday morning cartoons back.
Join us for a two-hour block of films just for kids (and adults who are kids at heart)! But that is not all, there will also be a photo station or children to get their picture taken in front of a superhero or princess backdrop. All children that come dressed up as their favorite superhero, princess, or other children’s character will receive a free entry into the Saturday Morning Cartoons film block.

Immediately following the films, walk down to the Town Green Lawn (in front of the Forum) and enjoy a great lunch from one of the street vendors.

American Songwriter

A kaleidoscopic musical road trip down a million mile highway of poetry, philosophy and life featuring Nashville hit songwriter, Danny Darst.

Immediately following the film, its star, Danny Darst, will perform live a few of his favorite songs as a special treat just for RIFF. Between songs Mr. Darst and Mr. Altman will answer questions about a few of their favorite behind the scenes stories. Come join us immediately after the film for our Opening Night Gala at Swift & Finch,  just half a block down Broad Street on the right.

Heathens and Thieves

A classic western—survival in the wide-open west on a bedrock of guns, blood, and greed. It’s a pressure cooker and a treasure hunt– though the treasure itself matters less than what its hunters are willing to give up to get it.

This year RIFF is in for a special treat! We are fortunate to be welcomed into the home of Wes Walraven and Brian Moore for this year’s Closing Night Gala at Historic Rose Hill Manor, located at 312 East 4th Avenue. Enjoy an elegant evening of delicious refreshments to close out this year’s festival.
